Madurai to Kanyakumari

245 km~5 hrsBest time: October to March

About This Destination

Book a Madurai to Kanyakumari cab and journey to the Land's End of India — 245 km via NH44, approximately 5 hours by road. Kanyakumari is the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent, where the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, and Indian Ocean converge. Famous for its sunrise and sunset visible from the same spot, the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, and the 133-ft Thiruvalluvar Statue rising from the sea.

Why Choose a Cab

Kanyakumari's sightseeing is spread across the beach, the rock memorial (reached by ferry), and sites a few kilometres inland. A private cab gives you the flexibility to arrive at the famous temple ghats for sunrise, spend the day at your pace, visit Padmanabhapuram Palace on the return, and reach home without waiting for bus timetables. For a one-day trip, an early 4 AM departure from Madurai is essential — a cab makes this possible.

Route & Journey Details

The main route follows NH44 southward through Tirunelveli — a well-maintained national highway. The journey takes approximately 5 hours. Traffic is generally smooth except through Tirunelveli city. Overnight packages allow you to visit Nagercoil and Padmanabhapuram Palace (30 km from Kanyakumari) the following morning before returning — strongly recommended for first-time visitors.

What to See

Vivekananda Rock Memorial

Built on a rock in the sea where Swami Vivekananda meditated — reached by a 10-minute government ferry from the shore. Allow 2 hours including the queue for the ferry.

Thiruvalluvar Statue

A 133-ft stone statue of the Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar, rising dramatically from the sea beside the Vivekananda Rock. Entry by the same ferry ticket.

Kumari Amman Temple

The ancient temple dedicated to the virgin goddess Kanya Kumari — situated at the very tip of the cape where three seas meet. One of South India's most revered shrines.

Triveni Sangam

The confluence where the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, and Indian Ocean meet — the waters show three distinct colours, a sight best observed from the beach at sunrise.

Padmanabhapuram Palace

A magnificent 16th-century wooden palace 30 km from Kanyakumari — one of the finest examples of traditional Kerala architecture. Best included in an overnight itinerary.
